This is a guest post from Mrs. Dough, my better half.
When DR started blogging, I suggested we do something with part of the income to help others in need. DR asked me what our goal should be. Frankly, I wasn’t sure why we needed a goal. Blog. Make money. Give some of it away. Seemed easy enough to me. Why does DR always want to make everything hard? So DR came up with a goal.
It was $10,000. Gulp. I began to wonder if he had lost his mind. We were no where close to making the kind of monthly income we would need to meet that goal. But after many years of marriage, I learned to pick my battles. This was not going to be one of them. Go ahead and blog DR, and let’s see what happens.
What happened was the blog took off. And every month we were getting closer to the monthly income needed and soon we were meeting the goal and then we were surpassing it. I could never have dreamed that.
Therein lies my problem. I am not a dreamer. DR is. Having a dream (or a goal) is pertinent to reaching great heights. DR put many hours of sweat into his blog to reach that goal. The sweat was frustration and time, and ok, maybe some complaining on my part. (”Are you still on that computer?”) DR knew where he wanted to go and worked hard at getting there.
You have to decide what you want and name it before you can attain it. What’s your dream? To be debt free? Save for a vacation? Finish a project? Enjoy some free time? Raise your children with values? Whatever it is, you won’t get there unless you are intentional about it. Proverbs tells us that without a dream, the people perish. So go ahead, dream a little bit.
